TANNAHILL WEAVERS
The Tannahill Weavers have received worldwide accolades over the years for their exuberant performances and outstanding recording efforts that seemingly can't be bettered - yet continue to do just that! They have that unique combination of traditional melodies, rich vocals, and driving rhythmic accompaniment that make their shows unforgettable. They were the first Scottish trad folk band to harness the power of the bagpipes into their repertoire.
The Winnipeg Free Press noted, "The Tannnahill Weavers, if properly harnessed - could probably power an entire city for a year on the strength of last night's concert alone.” In 2011 the band was inducted into the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame, and in in 2021 they were joined by exciting piper and fiddle player Iain MacGillivray, who is also Scotland's youngest Clan leader, and has worked on such shows as Outlander and Men in Kilts, among others. Together they are now firmly established as one of the premier groups on the concert stage, and considered a national treasure.
“Formed from a Paisley pub session, seminal trailblazers
the Tannahill Weavers now also rank as a national
treasure”- Glasgow Celtic Connections 2018.
”… the group has found an especially eloquent mixture
of the old and new.” - Stephen Holden, New York Times
